Quillnote

Quillnote is a free note taking developed by a Comp. Sci student at the University of Thessaly. It's fast, easy to use, and has tons of functionality including audio recording, markdown support, tags, and image attachments. Best of all it's Open-Source (GPL-3.0) and supports synchronization with Nextcloud (experimental)! On the downside search is fairly basic and hidden in a menu. About

Ugly

  • Shows markdown while editing, I prefer WYSIWYG, i.e. hide the markup by default and have option to show it
  • Table doesn't seem to render when viewing a note
  • The usability for tags is odd: go to hamburger, tags, then choose a tag

Bad

  • Should be able to click (or double click) a note to edit it
  • Can't check/uncheck a checklist item when viewing a note in the main screen
  • Can't click on a tag from a note and see other notes with same tag

Good

  • Shows the date created and date modified at the bottom of note
  • Change the background
  • Attach an image
  • Record audio
  • Pin a note
  • Formatting includes bold, italic, strike-through, headings, and Code
  • Quotes
  • Tables using markdown
  • Checklists inline
  • Hyperlinks
  • Tags
  • Undo and redo
  • Reminders
  • Sort by date modified, created, or title
  • One or two column grid list of notes
  • Backup locally into zip file
  • Color schemes: I like the purple
  • Hide a note
  • Archive a note

Great

  • Supports markdown
  • Share note in markdown format
  • Very easy to use notebooks

Awesome

  • Free
  • Open Source
  • Nextcloud sync (experimental)
